Hey,
What are you doing today?
As a business owner I've created endless to do lists and tried to action my way out of a crisis on a daily basis. And there is no end to Linkedin Gurus telling you how to solve the overwhelming burden of ‘too much to do’.
And this email won't solve any of that, so feel free to go back to what you were doing if you need a solution.
And tools like the Eisenhower Matrix haven't been much good for me; my life is chaotic and trying to put it into an ordered list? I don't have time for it.
But the work we do matters. Actions and tasks matter. And they matter because it's these things that are moving us towards something bigger. Something we aspire to.
So, where is your work taking your business?
While developing a workshop I recently discovered the pyramid of clarity
And it suggests that to define meaningful work - the work that's going to get you where you want your business to go - comes from clearly defining ‘the mission’.
I know having ‘a mission’ is really trendy in the Brand Building circles, but we can call it an ‘Audacious Goal’; a place to lock down an idea of your desired future and move it from your head onto paper and make it more tangible.
From here you can start pulling out the objectives - these are designed to guide you to that place you want your business to be. Objectives make your mission more bite-sized to process over the quarters and years you're running your business.
Then you can come up with the work that will get you to that mission - the things you're doing weekly and monthly to move towards that objective. When it’s all connected it gives you clarity and confidence in what you're doing, but also allows you to use that to motivate your team. As people it's much easier to get things done when we understand why we are being asked to do it.
I know it probably sounds just as ‘pie-in-the-sky’ or as ‘good an idea’ as that bloody priority matrix…
But I started this email by asking if the work you are doing is going to take your business where you want it to go.
If you are keen to better understand this, and skip a few steps in the top-down process I described, we can jump from the bottom to the top.
Reflect on where you want your business to go
The reason I'm sharing this is I hate the idea of looking back and having regrets. If I'd stayed in my corporate job I’m certain I would have looked back and had regrets. Now I’ve put myself in charge, I would really hate to look back on this one day with regrets.
Because when we are in charge of the business, we’re not just responsible for the work getting done, but we are also in charge of having a vision for where we want it to go and getting it there one day.
If you’d like to look deeper into defining your goals, objectives and tactics we wrote something here

2024 was quite the year for change and it doesn't look like the pace will be letting up in 2025. Below I’ve captured my biggest pieces of advice for navigating the business landscape as an entrepreneur in 2025. So what changed? The biggest shift I saw in 2024 was a slow down in consumer spending. And if people are spending less at the till, brands aren’t making as much money, agencies aren’t being given enough campaigns and people are getting laid off so even less money is being spent at the...
Hey, it's Sid here. It’s been a while since I sent anything out to this mailing list. Thanks for sticking around. I really do appreciate it. I've been working on content recently that we are getting ready to schedule on social media platforms. However there were a few topics that felt more personal that I would rather share with the people here than the people out there. 2024 was a hell of a year: we welcomed our new son to the family after a tricky pregnancy, followed by a month's stay in...
